Sport in South Africa is becoming increasingly politicised, and this process is being sped up.
Government and sports authorities have drawn up a rigid list of race quotas for all the major sports, and Sports Minister Tokozile Xasa will enforce it. Solidarity recently argued in the Johannesburg Labour Court that the Transformation Charter for South African Sport must be scrapped.
Sport is not just about the Springboks. Sport is about every preschool, primary school and high school and trials. We must take politics out of sport at all those levels. We want to put an end to quotas in sport by telling the stories of ordinary sportsmen and women and of ordinary school children.
