Solidarity is fighting
Gauteng MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi, announced on 2 December 2017 that funding for the jobs of approximately 1 800 Departmental High School Teachers will be discontinued. Solidarity is going to submit court documents to force the Department to review its decision. Solidarity is also going to exhort the Department as this decision threatens 1 800 teachers’ jobs, and therefore needs to be dealt with in terms of the Labour Relations Act as an Article 189 retrenchment process. This process is already not followed and Solidarity is going to fight the retrenchment process on behalf of its members in court.
