SOLIDARITY SUBMIT SHADOW REPORT AT GENÈVE
At the end of last year, the South African government submitted a report to the United Nations on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination. The report was eight years late. This report provides feedback on the government’s compliance to the convention for the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination (CERD), which South Africa ratified.

In the meantime, Solidarity compiled a shadow report with the input of its members and other interested parties. The Solidarity report aims to promote debate on the controversial issue of BB-SBE and affirmative action in South Africa and will be submitted in the form of a complaint against the South African government.

A shadow report is an important instrument for non-governmental organisations to provide the UN with all the facts for when the South African government’s report will be considered in April/May 2016.

Solidarity will also visit the European Parliament and will spend some time with other South Africans overseas.
