When choosing a career in marketing, you must be ready for the adventure of a lifetime – you must display many personality traits to be able to adapt to all the different aspects of the profession. These can range from a week filled with exciting appointments and meetings in coffee shops, to a quiet week in which you deal with administration and paperwork.
“A marketer has the power to be a company’s superhero – someone who can distribute a company’s trademark worldwide and make it a great success. But then the wrong marketer can also be a company’s biggest drawback, which could mean huge financial loss and disappointment,” said Dewald Rosema, marketer and co-owner of, among others, DigitalFlyer, a one-stop marketing website aimed at helping businesses with marketing.
“Nowadays, reliability is the most important characteristic a business owner seeks in a marketer. We no longer live in an era where you as a marketer can simply sell a pretty picture on a billboard, or sell a charming talk on a local radio station. The world of marketing has changed completely with the advent of social media, and today reliability and out-of-the-box creativity are much more important. You must be able to sustain your service to a company,” Rosema said from his home office in Wapadrant, Pretoria.
